Education
Building and retaining opera audiences is a major goal of every opera company. Opera education is the key that opens minds to the appreciation, enjoyment and wonders of the opera experience.
Opera Volunteers International offers a clearinghouse of information on organizing and maintaining programs that train individuals and groups as speakers, presenters, docents and ambassadors of opera and music to their communities. Today’s minimal funding for arts education programs fails to provide schools with sufficient resources to afford the necessary arts curricula and staff. Art and music are among the first eliminations from school programs when funding becomes tight in our nation’s educational system; our future generations are being deprived of opportunities to expand their knowledge, understanding and appreciation of these subjects that could provide a source of pleasure throughout their lives.
Our opera companies are similarly strapped today and increasingly asking volunteers to reach out and share their interest, enthusiasm and impressive knowledge with children and adults in their communities. Support groups and individuals give their time and talent to expanding the understanding and appreciation of music and opera from kindergartens to elder hostels.
Let OVI help you find successful outreach programs that can interest and entertain in your community. Our Education Chairman, Roy Fisher (Yorhc (at sign) aol period com) is eager and available to assist you.
