Coveted Award Bestowed on Omaha Volunteer
Sandra L. (Sandi) Bruns, well-known for volunteerism in the arts, has been awarded the Opera Volunteers International Bravo Award for her 22 years of extraordinary service on the OVI Board. As OVI President from 2003 to 2006 Sandi was a vital force in establishing OVI as an independent “all volunteer” organization.
In the 38 year history of the organization, there have been only 5 Bravo Award recipients. This prestigious award is given as a tribute to a person who has performed outstanding and unusual service on behalf of OVI. As part of the Bravo Award, Sandi has been given Honorary Lifetime membership in OVI.
Sandi joined Opera Volunteers International, then called OGI, in 1987 while she was President of the Opera/Omaha Guild. She became a board member in 1988 and served in a variety of board positions until 2003 when she was elected OVI President.
In addition to her volunteer work Sandi has won national attention as an artist, winning awards in juried shows. Sandi has illustrated books as well.
