Opera Volunteers International is a nonprofit, volunteer-led service organization.  We are the premier advocate and resource for the advancement and development of volunteerism in support of opera.  OVI is dedicated to stimulating interest in and growth and support of opera in communities worldwide by connecting opera support groups, individual volunteers, donors, opera company staff and others interested in expanding the future of opera.

To do this OVI

  • Establishes and maintains itself as the primary umbrella organization of opera volunteers and support organizations;
  • Actively fosters the sharing of information, ideas, knowledge, resources, experience, expertise, and wisdom about opera-related volunteerism;
  • Promotes alliances between opera volunteers and companies;
  • Facilitates the training and development of opera volunteers through its matching grants to qualifying nonprofit organizations;
  • Assists in the formation, growth, or revitalization of opera support groups;
  • Identifies and reaches out to all opera enthusiasts, supporters, donors, volunteers, support groups, companies, and other stakeholders, including performers and educational groups, to increase the capability and potential of opera volunteers for the benefit and development of well-integrated opera support organizations;
  • Seeks opportunities to develop alliances with similar volunteer support groups for the performing, visual, and musical arts at the local and national level to foster the exchange of ideas on enhancing the effectiveness of volunteers within all these communities;
  • Expands its base of financial support through the exploration of new grant and donor potential.
